BOX HILL

Box Hill in Dorking appears to be a paranormal beacon of some kind, with various different accounts spread out across its hilltop.

The first spirit is that of an eccentric sword-wielding officer, Major Peter Labelliere. He roams by his grave upon the hill, where he was buried upside down and had his landlords son dance upon his coffin. People believe this unusual burial disturbing the body and has trapped his soul to haunt here.

Online ghost hunting channel Fantasma House Paranormal have also reported compelling evidence that Box hill fort is haunted by the spirits of dead soldiers. With my research into the history of the hill, the obituaries surrounding the hill do seem to support this. 

We also have ghost sightings at the River Moles Stepping Stones, where people have seen religious spirits on a pilgrimage, stumbling wearily over the stones in period attire. Also, according to a much, much, older account, we have accounts of a "phantom rider" that has been seen and heard galloping across the summit at night. 

One of the scarier accounts as of recent is a video from Youtube account Will Whereabouts that captures terrifying screaming heard in the woods, that many people in the comments and on Tiktok claim are Skinwalkers.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Well this place certainly does live up to expectation. After the slightly dissapointing lack of evidence at Betchworth Castle, we make a short journey to the car park of Box Hill.

It was a surprisingly busy car park with a few families and teens drinking by their cars, but once entering the woods, it became quiet quickly.
