BETCHWORTH CASTLE EXPERIENCE

BETCHWORTH CASTLE

Betchworth castle, only a short drive away from Box Hill is haunted by a black shuck that only prowls the ruins at night, growling to those who visit.

The Lord of the Manor, "Lord Hope" is meant to still wander the castle in grief over the accidental killing of his son, thinking him a convict.

Car parking is just opposite the garden centre on Reigate Road (A.25) at approximately RH4 1NP.

OUR EXPERIENCE

To get to the castle we had a short walk though a golf course on a public path. I have to admit this isn’t the scariest set up to a haunted location; though the sight of Betchworth Castle itself is quite gothic.

Dissapointingly it is not open for the public to walk around at night, though there is a perimeter path that takes you on a nice tour of the outside. Unfortunately it is exactly that. Nice.

We didn’t really experience anything out of the ordinary walking around this castle, and upon conducting a Spirit Box session, didn’t really gain any clarity on whether any spirits remained here.

Baxter and Penn heard a few strange noises of movement in the bushes, though this could be chalked up to local wildlife.

On the way back from the castle, we had maybe the best bit of evidence at this location which was loud crashing noises like someone running through the bushes all around us, and even what may have been some kind of talking captured? Nothing was paticularly conclusive however and we decided (rightfully) to try our luck at Box Hill.
